The Scripture:

Exodus 20:17

Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is thy neighbour's.

Our thoughts:

Many times I find myself in danger of breaking this commandment! It is so easy to see the things that others have and to focus on them to the point where it is hard to think of anything else. You ask yourself, "Why can't I have that? This isn't fair that they have one of those and I don't!" Please remember focusing on the things that others have can cause you not to see all of the things that you have right in front of you! Remember the old saying, "The grass is always greener on the other side of the fence." It may look like someone has so much more than you but at what cost? What about the payments? What about possibly being alone? Do they have a loving wife like you? Do they have loving children? Do they have a personal relationship with God or do they place their possessions more important than Him? Things can become our God if we let them!

Our prayer for you:

Dear God, Please hear our prayer. Please help us to be satisfied with the things you have given us. Please help us not to look at what others have and to desire them to the point it leads to hurt someone else in order to get them. Lord help us to make sure that we are focusing on you. This is our simple prayer. Amen.
